Echinobivia ‘Rainbow Bursts’, also known as Rainbow Bursts Cactus, Hybrid Hedgehog Cactus, or Echinopsis Hybrid, is a spectacular flowering cactus prized for its vibrant, colorful blooms. This cultivated hybrid is not native to a specific region, but its South American ancestry gives it excellent heat and drought tolerance. It stays relatively compact, reaching approximately 4–8 inches tall and wide, and may form attractive clusters as it matures. Best suited to USDA Zones 9–11, it thrives in warm temperatures around 65–90°F (18–32°C) and can tolerate temperatures approaching 100°F (38°C) when established and properly acclimated. Keep it completely dry during cold weather, as it can tolerate brief temperatures around 25–30°F (-4 to -1°C) but should be protected from prolonged freezing and wet winter conditions. Give it bright light, excellent drainage, and water deeply only after the soil has completely dried. With its compact size and spectacular flowers, ‘Rainbow Bursts’ is a colorful and eye-catching addition to any cactus collection, container garden, or sunny windowsill.
