Agave vilmoriniana, commonly known as Octopus Agave, is a striking Mexican succulent named for its long, narrow leaves that arch and twist outward like octopus tentacles. Native to Sonora, Sinaloa, and nearby regions of Mexico, it thrives in hot, dry climates and is an excellent choice for desert landscapes, xeriscapes, rock gardens, and containers. Mature plants typically reach 3–4 feet (0.9–1.2 m) tall and 4–6 feet (1.2–1.8 m) wide. It performs best in full sun, excellent drainage, and temperatures around 100–115°F (38–46°C), while established plants can tolerate brief cold near 20–25°F (-7 to -4°C). Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry between watering. Unlike many Agaves, it produces abundant bulbils along its tall flower stalk, making propagation easy. Its graceful, twisting foliage and unusual form make it a standout desert plant. Toxicity: Sap may cause skin and eye irritation. Wear gloves when handling and keep away from children and pets.
